What is Ford Ranger PHEV's Pro Power Onboard?

  • Pro Power Onboard is a feature on the new Ranger Plug-in Hybrid pickup that allows you to use your truck as an off-grid mobile power source
  • Providing electrical power from Ranger PHEV’s 11.8 kWh battery pack, Pro Power Onboard is available in two outputs: 2.3 kW and 6.9 kW
  • The new Ranger PHEV is now in full production with deliveries underway to customers in Europe

DUNTON, UK, July 30, 2025 – Whether you’re working in a remote spot and need to power your tools or charging your e-bike ahead of a day’s adventure seeking, the new Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) pickup is here to help.

The vehicle’s Pro Power Onboard system lets you use Ranger PHEV as a mobile power source, rather than relying on a separate portable generator. Utilising the Ranger PHEV’s 11.8 kWh (usable) battery pack, the Pro Power Onboard option is available in a choice of two power outputs – 2.3 kW or 6.9 kW, with the power split across three 230 V outlets.

On the more powerful 6.9 kW system, there is one outlet inside the vehicle’s cabin (10 A and 2.3 kW), and two in the load box (15 A and 3.45 kW per outlet) to meet the power demands of heavier duty equipment.

“Ranger PHEV takes pickup versatility to the next level with the ability to be an off-grid power plant for work and play,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro Europe. “The legendary off-road and load-hauling capability of Europe’s best-selling pickup 2 is made better than ever with plug-in hybrid power that can deliver electric to your wheels, your tools and your toys.”

The new Ranger PHEV 1 is now in full production and customers in Europe are able to test out Pro Power Onboard for themselves with deliveries already underway.

Power when you need it

Imagine the freedom of your truck being your very own private power plant. Ranger PHEV’s Pro Power Onboard can unlock a world of possibilities.

You are miles from the nearest power source and need to repair a metal gate or install a post. Using the 3.45 kW power outlet available in Ranger PHEV’s load box, you’ve got the power to run a welder, grinder, drill or compact cement mixer – helping you get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Rain has interrupted your wild camping trip, so your solar panels haven’t generated enough power to keep your caravan’s leisure batteries topped up. Instead of cutting your adventure short, simply plug into one of Ranger PHEV’s outlets, and Pro Power Onboard will help keep the batteries charged and the good times rolling.

Your kids are not in the mood for a quiet weekend, so why not take them for a mud-flinging excursion on electric mountain bikes? The fun doesn’t have to stop when the batteries are empty either. With Pro Power Onboard you can recharge them and keep the antics flowing.

Turn any campsite into an open-air cinema. Pro Power Onboard can power a projector, screen and speakers for an unforgettable movie night. Or become the ultimate outdoor chef by running an electric pizza oven or barbecue, creating mouth-watering masterpieces wherever you roam.

How do you use it?

Ranger PHEV’s Pro Power Onboard system is controlled via the vehicle’s SYNC 4 infotainment system, 3 with the power draw of plugged-in items displayed on the touchscreen. In its default setting, Pro Power Onboard is switched off, with 400 W electrical output available from the rear cabin socket. To activate Pro Power Onboard via SYNC 4, press the Generator button. Once the system is running owners can switch on one or both outlets in the load box using soft switches on the SYNC 4 touchscreen.

When parked, the system draws power from Ranger PHEV’s battery pack, but if the battery charge has been depleted the system will start up the vehicle’s petrol engine to generate a continuous flow of power. When the combined petrol and electric driving distance to empty drops below 80 km, the system will shift into Low Power mode, to help ensure you can complete your trip.
