Ford BlueCruise1 hands-free highway driving technology can now be used and enjoyed in a total of 15 European countries, following approval by the European Commission.
In Europe, this unlocks access to more than 82,744 miles of designated highways across Europe, called Blue Zones, allowing customers to take a road trip across multiple countries. Imagine the possibilities for a customer who could use BlueCruise across six countries – from Sweden down south to Italy – almost 1,864 miles and 25+ hours spent driving hands-free.
With this approval, BlueCruise is now available to Ford customers to use across 17 countries globally. This includes the U.S. and Canada, as well as Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
BlueCruise has gained momentum globally over the last year. In 2023, BlueCruise was the first system of its kind to gain regulatory approval when it launched in Great Britain, becoming the first advanced driver assistance system that delivers true hands-free driving at highway speeds in Europe. Ford was also the first automaker to receive approval in Spain and introduce hands-free highway driving. BlueCruise also rolled out to customers in Germany.
BlueCruise can help customers arrive at their destination less fatigued and more energized, whether on their daily commute in stop-and-go traffic or taking a long road trip. People spend an average of one hour each day driving, according to AAA. This can be tiring, stressful and physically draining.
This year in North America, Ford has already expanded the availability of BlueCruise onto more electric, hybrid and gas-powered Ford and Lincoln vehicles, including the 2025 Ford Explorer and 2025 Lincoln Aviator SUVs. With Aviator deliveries beginning this summer, all Lincoln U.S. models will have available BlueCruise.
Owners in the U.S. have shared how BlueCruise is changing their drive time. For example, F-150 Lightning owner Peter Lamarine said, “BlueCruise changed what was a completely boring, monotonous ride to something that is now enjoyable. The worst part of my day is work, and the best part is driving to and from work.”
There are more than 420,000 BlueCruise-equipped Ford and Lincoln vehicles on the road globally. Customers in the U.S. and Canada have also spent over 3.1 million hours enjoying and using BlueCruise and have driven more than 213 million hands-free miles. That’s farther than a round trip from Earth to the sun.
