PRETORIA, South Africa, 06 November 2025 – Ford South Africa is making exciting updates to its powertrain offerings, adding the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine for the award-winning Ranger and Everest. Furthermore, the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will be expanded into more derivatives alongside the proven 2.0L turbo diesel, while the 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel will be phased out as part of the revised line-up.
The introduction of the acclaimed 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine provides customers with a compelling new powertrain, delivering a blend of strong performance, advanced technology, and enhanced driving refinement. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, a proven performer in other Ford vehicles globally, is specifically tuned for the Ranger and Everest.
This turbocharged, direct-injection, inline 4-cylinder engine, with its lightweight aluminium block and turbocharger, delivers 222 kW of power and 452 Nm of torque, ensuring a responsive power delivery across a broad rev range, promising smooth and efficient performance when paired with Ford's advanced 10-speed automatic transmission.
The robust 2.0L turbo diesel engine has been upgraded with a new timing chain for improved durability and performance, giving customers a proven, capable and affordable powertrain option. The 10-speed automatic transmission featuring an updated calibration will be offered for the first time on the XL and XLT models. The sought-after 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will now also be offered on a wider range of models, which will be the subject of a future announcement.
